Former pupil achieves her dream with debut novel
Class of 2003 former pupil, Emma Steele (nee Mitchelson) left the High School to pursue a career in law, but soon found herself venturing down a different path entirely.
Taking a leap of faith after having her first child, Emma decided to follow her dreams of writing and publishing her own novel. Inspired by the popular The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, her debut novel, The Echoes of Us, is a thrilling love story shrouded in mystery with twists and turns aplenty.
Commenting on what inspired the plot in her feature in The Sunday Post in May, Emma said “I have always been really interested in phenomena like near death experiences, lucid dreams and powerful love stories; how the power of love can connect two people at the end.” Beginning her writing journey during the Covid-19 pandemic, Emma shared that the city of Edinburgh (where she currently lives) has been inspirational in her work and features as a backdrop to much of her writing.
The Echoes of Us will be available at all popular retailers including Waterstones and Amazon from Thursday 6th June 2024. If you can’t wait until then, there’s still time to pre-order your copy by clicking here.
We’re also delighted to share that Emma will be attending an author’s Q&A at Waterstones in Livingston on Thursday 20th June, from 6pm-7pm. If you’d like to show your support for Emma and ask any questions about her debut novel, you can sign up to this event here.
